How did you hear about crossfit?
I heard about CrossFit a few years ago while I was away at college, but I was always afraid that I would become “manly”. Well that impression changed very fast because I started getting very bored at the regular gym doing the same old workouts every day. I needed a change!
How long have you been at PCF?
I joined Port CrossFit around may /June 2015 and it was the best decision I made. I have always been into exercising and being active. I was a big runner and would run 10 -12 miles a day. Unfortunately, I had to stop running because of my hips. Cortisone shots to nub the pain wasn’t healthy. I needed to fill that gap with something new that I could enjoy just as much as running. Then I found Port CrossFit!. I was nervous joining as a girl who never lifted, only did cardio and ran. My first class was rough but I loved it.
What do you like about port CrossFit?
I love Port CrossFit because of the family environment. It doesn’t matter if you’re a newbie or pro at Port CrossFit, the encouragement is constant no matter what level you’re at . It’s a family, everyone cheers for the members and pushes to assist all during every workout. This is my greatest stress reliever. It kept me sane during nursing school and now as a pediatric nurse.
One word to describe yourself?
Determined…….. I might not be the best but I will strive to always do my best and then some.
What have you achieved since starting at PCF?
When I first joined Port CrossFit I couldn’t even do a pull up. I was on a black band and struggling. Now after two years I can not only can I do pull ups but, kipping pull ups and chest to bar pull ups. I can also do handstand push ups , double unders ,toes to bar, and have become stronger then when I first started. I recently had the opportunity to go to Boston for a competition ,which was an amazing experience.
What would you like to accomplish?
I would like to start pushing myself more during my workouts. No more scaling just doing RX workouts. I would like to improve double unders and toes to bars.
What are your interests outside of CrossFit?
Now that I have finished nursing school and have a life again. I am enjoying having time for my friends and family.
What do you do for a living?
I am a pediatric nurse in Stony Brook, and I absolutely love it! I eventually want to get into pediatric oncology but for now I’m very happy where I am as long as I’m working with children.
Whats your favorite WOD or lift?
My favorite WOD is Kelly, and my favorite lift is deadlifts. I love any workouts that have box jumps, burpees and wall balls. The lifting part of workouts take me longer and I can go faster with the other things.
